Dr. Karen Frush is coming to us from Duke where she currently serves as the Chief Safety Patient Officer for Duke University Health System. Karen started her career as a nurse then as a second career became a physician. She has published, written, and authored over 75 different articles, chapters in books and in journals in pediatrics about patient safety, and just culture. Karen has presented to colleagues statewide, nationally and internationally and has spent the last 20 years working with Duke to champion cultures that provide safe and effective patient care.
HOPE worldwide Bolivia and Hospital Arco Iris has the privilege of Karen spending a week with us and volunteering her expertise. She will present on the topics of Just Culture, Patient Safety and Leadership to the entire hospital leadership, physicians and staff, as well as, representatives from the Bolivian Ministry of Health, and other healthcare leaders in La Paz. In addition she will commission and lead the newly formed HAI Patient Safety Team in their first hospital Patient Safety Rounds.
Dr. Frush will be accompanied by two of her four children. Ben is pre-med and Sarah is a second year medical student at the University of North Carolina.
