It seems hard to believe that the HOPE team has been in Bolivia for over three months now. It has been a time filled with dreams, challenges, hard work, and determination. This week was an encouraging week as Dr. Gary Jacques, Director of HOPEworldwide’s Health and Social Services Division came to see the result of our labor. Gary has invested hours of his time in the past few years to make the alliance between HOPEworldwide and Arco Iris a reality. During his visit, Dr. Jacques was able to see the beauty of the collaboration that has formed between our two organizations in the past few months. It is obvious that by working together we can do so much more to meet the needs of the hurting and the poor than we could ever imagine accomplishing individually. It is powerful to witness the meshing together of an international organization such as HOPE with its experience and expertise in leadership as well as in healthcare management with a well-respected and admired local organization such as Arco Iris. Arco Iris’ strengths are irreplaceable. They have run an effective hospital with a reputation respected by the community, as well as the country. They know the language, the needs and the culture of the Bolivian people. Together we have tackled several initiatives including ways to achieve auto sustainability of Hospital Arco Iris, further leadership development of the medical staff and training of nursing personnel. Dr. Jacques’ visit was a chance to review our progress and reaffirm our commitment to work as a team for the good of the hurting in La Paz. The effectiveness of our work is undoubtedly the result of our strong collaboration.
